A Kolkata-boy, Deepta Chakravartty grew up across the old corporate apartments of central and south Kolkata, including Kyd Street, Park Street and Minto Park. Educated at St. James' School, he later moved to Bengaluru to study life sciences, where he wrote and directed plays for college dramatics. Before pursuing doctoral research in aquaculture nutrition, his work and field studies took him across remote regions of India – from the tidal islands of the Sundarbans to the forest dams of southern Rajasthan. Long periods spent among isolated farming communities gradually shaped his interest in crime, folklore, ritual belief and the unseen psychological landscapes of rural India. During field visits through the Sundarbans, he began writing fiction alongside his research notes. Those early fragments would eventually evolve into his first occult crime saga.
